Radical IslamistsReader comment on item: [The Canadian Islamic Congress:] An Islamist Apology Submitted by Thomas A. Mayer (United States), Jul 20, 2005 at 21:35 I assume Canadian libel law is similar to Britain's; you don't need to prove malicious intent if you're a public figure. The opposite is the the case in the U.S. which makes it almost impossible for a public figure to prosecute a libel or defamation suit. At the risk of offending you, I encourage you to take on the radical Islamist community. The U.S. equivalent of CIC has made some alarming statements and has failed to disavow Islamist terrorists. If the U.S. organization attacks you, sue them. Perhaps you can argue you aren't a public figure; it's a legitimate issue so sue first and let the judge or jury decide. The litigation and its publicity may have the effect you want. Thomas A. Mayer Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
