The best way to fight terorrism is to educate the muslims and non muslims about the real reason of terrorism. Most muslims and even more non muslims do not know that quran and sunna (hadiths) both promote terrorism. A sample is as follows:
Quran:
8:12 ‘I will terrorize the unbelievers. Therefore smite them on their necks and every joint and incapacitate them. Strike off their heads and cut off each of their fingers .
8:17 "It is not ye who slew them; it was Allah
9.5: Slay the infidels wherever you find them unless they accept islam
9:14 " Allah will punish them by your hands, and disgrace them, help you (to victory) over them, heal the breasts of Believers
9.29 Fight with the christians and jews unless they accept islam or pay jizya
9.111 If you slay or are slain for Allah you are promised paradise

Hadiths:

Bukhari:V4B52N220 "Allah's Apostle said, ‘I have been made victorious with terror.'"

Ishaq:316 "Following Badr, Muhammad sent a number of raiders with orders to
capture some of the Meccans and burn them alive."

Bukhari:V5B59N512 "The Prophet offered the Fajr Prayer [Prayer of Fear] near Khaybar when it was still dark. He said, ‘Allahu-Akbar!' [Allah is Greatest] ' Then the inhabitants came out running on their roads. The Prophet had their men killed; their children and woman were taken as captives. "

Bukhari yol 3,Book 46, No. 717
The Prophet had suddenly attacked Bani Mustaliq without warning while they were heedless and their cattle were being watered at the places of water. Their fighting men were killed and their women and children were taken as captives; the Prophet got Juwairiya on that day.

Once moderate muslims are educated with the truth, they will not be prone to give moral and financial support to extremist hate mongers who depend on , and get this this support from, muslim umma at large.
Dr. Pipes, Robert Spencer (jihadwatch.org), Craig Winn (prophetofdoom.net)and Dr Sina(faithfreedom.org) are trying to do just that .
