In addition to your excellent article. I reference Alan Cowell's article on the resolve of the religious leaders trying to cool tensions, the problem the Moslem population faces is one of credibility. The head of Britain's council of mosques stated in public that "anyone claiming to commit a crime in the name of religion does not necessarily justify his position in the name of Islam which is totally contrary to Islam". The phrase after crime, "does not necessarily" speaks to the problem of lack of commitment by Moslems to attack the problem of terrorism among their ranks. This hedge represents either fear of or sympathy with the perpetrators. Would not a full page ad in the New York Times by hundreds of Imams decrying these acts as inconsistent with their religion and be a one way ticket to hell for these perpetuators of death and destruction of innocents.
