Trump vs Clinton

Reader comment on item: There's a Name for Trump's Brand of Politics: Neo-fascism

Submitted by Charles Martel (United States), Jun 30, 2016 at 15:02

Trump is an egotist, a braggart and a narcissist. He often speaks first, and frames his thought later -- or never. These are known faults of the man, most certainly. But...

Consider the alternative. Hillary Clinton is a demonstrably inept, ineffectual, Islamist-friendly, politically correct nincompoop, who has as much as promised to double down on the past eight years of Obamanomics. She has no inclination to put ground troops in play against ISIS. She can barely utter the words "Islamic terrorism". The woman does everything within her power to avoid linking Islam to anything unpleasant. One need but look back on Benghazi to see what the next four years under her leadership would be like.

I see Donald Trump as painful but necessary chemotherapy. Like Winston Churchill, Trump would not make a good peacetime leader. But in these times of existential peril, the choice between Trump and Hillary is a no brainer. Isn't it time to strengthen our borders? Doesn't a common sense, enlightened self interest approach to Muslim immigration seem reasonable? Should we not revisit the trade deals we've made with China? And what about Iran -- shouldn't we do what we can to strike a more balanced deal there as well? How about getting rid of the albatross "common core" so our kids have a chance to learn at a pace that fits their skill set? These ideas and more represent the platform Mr. Trump advocates. Now ask yourself, what does Hillary stand for...?

As a citizen, either you want another four years of Obama / Hillary or you want someone at the helm who comprehends the meaning of American exceptionalism and why its worth fighting and possibly dying to protect. I don't like Donald Trump. But he has my vote because I think he constitutes our last best chance to save this country from becoming Eurabia #2.

Daniel Pipes replies:

You make a good case. And if we were talking only about issues, I might be persuaded. But I see Trump as an evil man, an embarrassment, and a neo-fascist, so his policies matter less to me than his person.
