Reza Aslan is he a liar?

Reader comment on item: Islamism's Likely Doom

Dr. Pipes

I wish that you comment on the claims by the big time liar Reza Aslan (yes I made up my mind) that he is "I am a historian. I am PhD in history of religions."

I have no difficulty if a Muslim writes a book about the historical Jesus (for the readers: compare this with the case of Henri Lammens who was planning to write books about critical reading of the Qur'an and of the entire sira and he was told by, or so we are told, no other the Vatican not to write such books)

As for his book No god but god: how can he write a book about early Islam when his command of Arabic as well as the languages of the late antique period be it Syriac or Hebrew (he claims to have studied Biblical Greek) is big time zero

The real problem with writing anything about the history of early Islam is that the author have to deal with the two books of John Wansbrough who was able to demolish just about anything that the Islamic tradition tells us about its early history. And all Aslan did in his shameful book he just glossed over in less than a page what Wansbrough is saying. Did he refute anything? Not a thing

But a liar will always be a liar
