Islamists, dealing with Muslims.

Reader comment on item: Islamism's Likely Doom

Submitted by Bart Benschop (Australia), Jul 28, 2013 at 21:37

Dear Mr. Pipes,

I have a problem with the word Islamist. Islam means submission (to Al Shari'ia). To conjugate this word using non Semitic grammar is objectionable. What is wrong with using Jihadi?

I was born in a Muslim country and have lived, worked and travelled widely in Muslim countries.

My forefathers and family members have lived and worked in Muslim countries for over three centuries. Some of them administered Al Shari'ia. My observation is that cooperation between Muslims is almost impossible because of blood feuds, race, branch of Islam, location, etc., etc, etc.

Even when Islam had a califate there was no unity. For non Muslims the best policy is to minimise interaction with Muslims, to not get involved in inter Muslim disputes and to respond strongly when Muslims infringe on non Muslims.

Kind regards,

Bart Benschop
