Islam can be a Blessing to Israel

Reader comment on item: Islamism's Likely Doom

There is a lot of stuff associated with Islam: Countries, entities, social ideals, territorial battles, ethnic and civil wars. All of these things in the Middle east tend to come under the tagname 'Islam".

But let's face it, the conflict between Israel the local Arabs over Israel's existence appears on the surface to be just another Islamic issue. But is not, it is an ethnic conflict, remove the Islamic religion and Palestinians still exist and they still hate Israelis. This conflict could exist for 100 more years long after Islam has petered out.

They used to say the "troubles" in Ireland were sectarian, yet the troubles persist and the vast majority of citizens on both sides don't give a "monkey's" about religion.

I would go so far as to say that it is a blessing to Israel that her enemy today obsesses and struggles with faith and can't separate it from their feelings about their true ethnic conflict with israel. What Islam does for the Arab enemy is it divides, confuses, conflicts and be-guile the Arab side.

One may have trouble imagining what an angry focused agnostic Swede looks like, but I can imagine I'd rather take on a coalition of Hamas, Assad's rabble, Hezbollah and Iran than the Swedes.
