The UN, with US funds underwrote the refugees for decades but didn't push for assimilation or settlement. It made the camp life one of dependency but relative comfort in collusion with the host nations Jordan and Lebanon. To abruptly stop is not a moral solution. It's like feeding a stray cat regularly, then balking when she shows up with her kittens.
