"This may seem to be a silly question, but please explain to me why a Christian would feel obliged to serve the Jewish people"

What makes you think Christian people 'serve' Jewish people exclusively? They also serve muslims (eg. Pakistani floods) , Hindus (aid to India) , atheists (aid to North Korea), animists (aid to Africa, Haiti), Christians (aid to Christian communities all over the world) , Buddhists - (aid to Cambodia).
If you knew anythi9ng of Christianity - you would see it was a religion of active service to humanity - regardless of race/creed.

"...and why does a Christian not become a Jew?"

Why should they? Why does not a muslim become an atheist or a Christian? Ooops, forget that - I know several of them. Why does a dog not become a cat?
