Is Islam another form of colonialism?

Reader comment on item: Muhammad Ali's "Beautiful Soul"
in response to reader comment: Why African-American's convert to Islam? The Answer

The article written by Zalid Shakur warrants my response, although I rarely respond to bloggs. I have never read an article where a man of colour -I am assuming he is of African American origin purports that one form of slavery was more humane or acceptable than another.Yes there are degrees of degradation that people of African descent were subject to .but that is exactly what they are different level of human degradation of slavery that hold the mind ,will and spiritual growth of one human being over another. Islam suffocates the spirit of black people just like any other system of colonialism and abuse. You are pointing to the Arab master being better or more humane than the white.I want neither.

I believe that people of African descent are the original race and original people who climb to these religions because they lost their own sense of original identity and ownership.-an ownership which preceded all religious systems.
