And this guy was famous for...what?

Ali is famous for one reason only: he was extraordinarily skilled in punching people's lights out. Frankly, that's a rather dubious distinction when you consider the myriad other skills that have marked famous people. I wonder if, at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter were to have only one seat left in the house and Ali showed up alongside Dr. Jonas Salk.

Apart from his prowess in the ring, what set Ali apart from other people?

He had a big mouth that he couldn't keep shut. He was unimaginably tactless. He became hysterically drunk with the material trappings of his success and, like so many Hollywood egomaniacs, indulged himself with complete abandon.

No. This is NOT a person to be honored by a president!
