Reader comment on item: Islamist Turkey Overreaches
in response to reader comment: Ianus, it is quite obvious there is nothing I can say to ease your anger and resentment towards Turks (Secularists or Islamists).

Lazman ,

Let me remind you of a few relevant things first . You told us e.g. about Turkish diplomats saving Jews . I responded by pointing out that official Ankara refused to provide visas to German Jews . I also asked about the Struma incident and the anti-Jewish pogroms in Thrace in 1934 . You told me about Turkey's anti-communism . I responded by pointing out that Kemalist Turkey owes its very existence to Soviet help and that Russian communists (Aralov, Frunze ) are honorary citizens of the Turkish Republic .

Now instead of facing the negative evidence I adduced you totally avoid discussing it but happily infer : " an emotional root that is very personal and vital to your beliefs. In all sincerity, I wish I could somehow help reverse or amend that but I realize that is not realistic."

Speaking of realism , it seems that what you would you most like help reverse or amend are the facts that debunk your pro-Turkish apologetics , since your peculiar conclusion amounts briefly to saying that it is my mind and not Turkey that is the problem here . You would like to blind, distort and pervert my mind so that I don't see any longer nasty facts around me , trust Turkish bubbles and defend the indefensible as you do . An interesting suggestion that is , incidently , universally shared by Turks for whom every critical remark on them , their past , their dysfunctional state and misdeeds reflects just the malicious , immoral and sick nature of the critic and never of his subject matter . Hence they are so quick to suppress and harshly punish any critical voices without ever considering their validity .
