Reader comment on item: Islamist Turkey Overreaches

Submitted by Kiel Hesselmann (Denmark), Jun 8, 2010 at 13:48

Turkey have been on its way to join the rest of the Muslim Middle East for some years now. You could follow some significant steps along the way. One of these was the controversy over womens veil. Some universities would not allow these signs of downtrotten womanhood, but were overruled of Erdogan's courts.

During the longlasting debate in Europe about Turkey as a coming member of the European Union, the Bush Administration in Washington recommended to Brussels the immediate follow-up of real talks about admission for Turkey into the "golden circle" of well-off countries. Even George W. Bush would not see the real intentions of the Islamists.

Ankara's veil of intentions has fallen to the ground as the new attitude towards Israel has shown. Now that Erdogan joins Ahmadinejad it should be clear, that Turkey cannot be a member of the European circle. The Secretary General of NATO should seek Turkeys exit immediately. And it cannot be too hastely. In so doing Fogh Rasmussen could pay back a "favour" he owes Erdogan.
