"His move against Israel brought him support in the west from so-called "leftists" who will now be happy to ignore the descent into tyrannic Islamism."

Are you suggesting the militarists ruled Turkey without tyrannical oppression ? Turkey has always been a police state and will always be - with Erdogan or with the chief of staff of the Turkish army as head of state .
