I suggest that you check the new book by G Puin (who edited the San'a Qur'an) and it is "The hidden origins of Islam" and yes you will need to know some Arabic and some Syriac but just check out the book.

You see the islamic historical tradition is the biggest literary farud in the history of man/womankind. If you know Arabic and Syriac and Hebrew and old Greek just let me know and I can provide you with names of others sources and books

This coming weekend I will post another follow up about Abd al-Malik and he is the one that built al-masjad al-aqsa in Jerusalem
