Dr. Pipes, a small clarification.

Reader comment on item: Mosque in Cordoba, Church in Damascus
in response to reader comment: How about reciprocal rights also to.......Jews?

Submitted by Moshe (Israel), Jan 2, 2007 at 14:37

Dr. Pipes,

Thank you for your reply, but I have the feeling that you did not understand my post. As you correctly mentioned, the Muslims have had continuous access to the Temple Mount, and nobody ever denied this access from Muslims.

My point was that this access has been, and is, systematically denied from Jews by the Muslims who are de facto controlling this holiest site for the Jewish People with the tacit consent of the Israeli authorities.

Although access of visitors is permitted, it is limited to a couple of hours early in the morning under strict surveillance to ensure that nobody can stop even for a short silent prayer. As I already mentioned, prayer of Jews on this site is strictly forbidden by the Muslim Wakf who is de facto controlling the Mount.

With best regards,

Moshe

Daniel Pipes replies:

I understood you. But my point is that it is the Israeli authorities who call the shots here, not the Waqf.
