Perhaps it was pointed out, Jews were slaughtered in the 1929 Hebron riots by their Arab 'neighbors' whom they wrongly believed would protect them. A few years back, a couple of Jews took the wrong turn into the city of Ramallah. They were lynched and mutilated by the Palestinian mob. In a poice station! This is virtually inconceivable were the roles reversed; that a Jewish mob would willy nilly lynch an Arab couple who took the wrong turn into a Jewish neighborhood.

There have been times of relative tolerance by Muslims toward their non-Muslim neighbors in history but we know at any time some (al-Husseini or Arafat) demagogue or religious authority can stir the mob to murderous action. Unlike an Arab living in Israel, a Jew can never be assured of his or her safety. Never. Fayyad's assurances notwithstanding.

Besides what Fayyad considers Palestine or Muslim land is in fact Israel or Jewish land. It belongs to the Jews in perpetuity. The Jews should no more consider giving up the 'West Bank' (taken in a war of self-defense) than the Americans would consider giving Texas and California to Mexico, from whom it was taken by military conquest. I hope the Jews have learned our lesson from the Gaza experience / debacle.
