The Soviet crest (or seal) showed the entire globe under the hammer and sickle. No world-wide intentions? "Workers of the world unite! All you have to lose are your chains!" The UN seal substitutes a wreath symbolizing world peace for the hammer and sickle. No comment on the UN - it was intended to be a world body. The American symbol is an eagle soaring in the sky. It says vigilance and isolation. Quite a difference... my country, Canada, has a red maple leaf on a white background. That's a country? A leaf turned red on a snowbank?
