Backing the wrong horse

Reader comment on item: A Critical Moment For Turkey

Submitted by David W. Lincoln (Canada), May 16, 2007 at 09:22

When Bush the Elder was President, to his eternal shame, his "Chicken Kiev" speech was given. He wanted to keep the Soviet Union together because of the perceived benefits that would come were there only one nation-state, instead of more than a dozen. The dangers of backing the secularists is a double edged sword.

On the one hand, an end-run around those aspects of Islam that are as finger nails on a blackboard - that is accomplished. Mind you, inside each person is a gap that can only be filled with the supernatural. That only leaves one option which has the greatest potential for good. that path has its dangers: a price to be paid when faith traditions are oppressed. For, when you have all the information that Voices of the Martyrs has compiled, one needs blindness rather than selective vision to explain why all that documentation is ignored.
