Reader comment on item: The London Markaz
in response to reader comment: What Would Jesus Do

Submitted by anon (United Kingdom), Mar 1, 2007 at 04:48

You're quite correct that Muslims and Christians share a belief in the existence, and to a cerain extent, sanctity of Jesus. However, it is wrong to over-stress the similarities: the whole Christian religion is based on the identity of Jesus as the actual son of God - a status that the Muslim faith does not accept. Christians believe that through Jesus we have forgiveness of sins and direct access to a relationship with God - he was to some, therefore, far more than a mere prophet. So, to say that, because both Christians and Muslims believe in Jesus, the buliding of a multi-million pound mosque in London is a logical extension of Britain's alleged Christian ethos represents a gross oversimplication - if not misunderstanding - of the nature of this religion.

I am not necessarily saying that a large mosque should not be built; however, this is not an argument that can logically - or in any way - be used to support it.
