All you need to do is to google it or you can go to your nearest university library and read it for yourself and there is plenty of information about it. But I really do not know how good is your command of Arabic or Greek because the only way that you can understand what really happened is to read the extant literary sources in their primary languages and also great reading about him is Henri Lammens

Mu3awiyya was for sure a Christian Arab and a follower of the old Syrian/Arab brand of Christianity and his name is a Syriac and not an Arabic name and in Syriac it means he who howls and if he had an Arabic name it would have been al-3Awi now do you get it?

Are you aware that even al-Tabari had no clue what the Quranic word al-samad really means? So much for the Quranic claim that it is kitab mubeen
