My Letter to the Newspaper

Reader comment on item: Muslims "Lagging Behind"

Submitted by Vicki Tidwell (United States), Jan 8, 2007 at 19:32

I sent this to the editor of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, but they did not see fit to print it in their "Letters to the Editor" section.

In case you missed it, Daniel Pipes' article on the Star-Telegram's Commentary page of Dec. 27 speaks volumes for those of us with loved ones fighting in this war on terrorism. His article was titled "Westerners Likely To Learn Hard Way."

Pipes brought up several very important points, but my favorite part was: "If Islamists constitute 10 percent to 15 percent of the Muslim population worldwide, they number 125 million to 200 million people, or a far greater total than all the fascists and communists--combined--who ever lived.

Pacifism, self-hatred (blaming our own country for the war) and complacency are lengthening the war against radical Islam and causing undue casualties."

Pipes also highlights "lawful Islamism" which is the non-violent approach of achieving world-wide dominance through educational, political and religious means. This approach will be much more difficult to control--especially with the "Let's all just get along" attitude of so many apathetic Americans, today; those who might consider Daniel Pipes a "kook." I, however, thank him for his prophetic insights.
