The deeper reason why.

Reader comment on item: Strange Logic in the Lebanon War

Submitted by concerned (Italy), Aug 16, 2006 at 08:26

While it is true that a movement's or country's image is all-important in the context of war, I'd like to offer what I feel is a deeper reason why this is true. It's true, I feel, because people have become much too dependent on what the media offers via images, pictures, films, etc., as if modern media were one big tabloid. People simply don't want to check out the facts for themselves, comparing one side's story with another's. And don't even think of mentioning history! People are as ignorant of history as I am of nuclear physics!

Either we've just become too lazy, or we feel that only the "experts" know best, but whatever the case may be, we're simply too tied to the image rather than research for ourselves. Nothing could be more fatal at a time like this.
