HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF

Reader comment on item: Strange Logic in the Lebanon War

Submitted by Fred Keller (United States), Aug 16, 2006 at 01:05

The reporting that Dr. Pipes describes in his article reminds me of the reporting that came out of Vietnam, during my six years there most of the reporting coming out of there bore little resemblance to actual events.

It was the same during my twenty five years in Africa, The reporting coming out of South Africa during the drive to end apartheid, was the same, I remember a German journalist paying children to throw stones at buildings while he photographed them. In one of the most bizarre cases a Dutch journalist took pictures from a tall building of Black's sleeping in a park during their lunch break and reported that they were dead and had been killed by the White South African police.

During the unrest in Eastern Zaire in 1976, Europeans were evacuated to the capital Kinshasa, when they arrived at the airport a reporter from one of the three main U.S. TV networks stood on the baggage belt and hollered to the crowd, have any of you people been raped?

I could go on but as any sane person can see that many journalists are less than honourable.
