Reader comment on item: Strange Logic in the Lebanon War

Submitted by Lucy Chambers (United States), Aug 15, 2006 at 20:39

One might consider the press people as fifth columnists, as must often be true, or as baby boom products of the Vietnam era of societal breakdown, or as people who went to journalism school but stayed away from academics, reading, and so on, or as self-absorbed people whose particular worldview ox is being gored by reality. But the idea of our being the world's lone superpower is not accurate.

We have had the benefit of technology since WW II, but there is no reason plenty of intelligent people in Russia, Asia, India, and elsewhere cannot invent all sorts of technological advances themselves and have been doing so for many years. It would take maybe one suitcase nuclear bomb on one of our cities to permanently erase the concept of lone superpower status for us.
