Utterly Disgusted

Reader comment on item: Militant Islam's New Strongholds

I am utterly disgusted with kind of postings that are allowed on this website, attacking Islam, Muslims and their holy book, the Quran. All these people posting think they know so much about the Quranic verses, and this abrogates that...and that verse abrogated that....who are you to judge the Quran? You are not scholars or anything.

The Prophet Muhammad said only 2 verses in the Quran abrogate another, 1) Dealing with alcohol 2) Dealing with divorce (or something else, cant remember). But there are only two.

He never told Muslims to abrogate the Madinah surahs with Makkah surahs. You have to understand the Quran in its historical context, and under which situation was this verse revealed. Maybe you should read the history of the threats the small muslim community were facing of total annihilation at the hands of the Pagan Arab Quraysh tribe and their allies, including two Jewish tribes who broke a treatywith the Muslims.

So don't post things you dont even know about. I go to the Old Testament and find many verses of God ordering the Israelites to "wipe out" their enemies "and plunder and loot until there is no more". Should we take this into its historical context, or should I begin a filibuster on how racist and intolerant the old testament is??...
