Tackling Islamists

Reader comment on item: Militant Islam's New Strongholds

Submitted by Hari Iyer (United States), Oct 22, 2002 at 20:45

During the Cold War period, it was customary for US immigration officials to ask a specific question -- whether that person believed in "violent overthrow of elected government" or belonged to any group that believed in these beliefs; it was done primarily to ferret out communists and its sympathizers.

The same rule has to be ruled to the Islamists: by definition, anyone believing in "quran, sunnah, hadiths" as a book of religion doesn't believe in democratic idealism.

As during the Cold War, should we not apply the same standard in allowing current immigration to the US?
