As a liberal, you should be very concerned about a belief system (Islam) which separates the world into two groups: The Land of Islam, and the Land of Unbelievers; a belief system which dictates that unbelievers have three choices 1) convert to Islam, 2) pay a poll tax and live in 2nd class "dhimmi" status, or 3) die. Force is an acceptable means to convert the unwilling. This is not a "conservative vs. liberal" issue. This is modern civilization vs. a 7th century mind set. Christianity had it's reformation. Islam desperately needs to have one now.

Islam is not a religion as you understand religion to be. It is a comprehensive political, economic, and social belief system. There is no separation of mosque and state in Sharia Law. The world today is very interconnected; there is simply no room in the modern world for a belief system that dictates that all other groups of people (Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics, etc.) should be either converted, subjugated, or killed.

It is good that you are tolerant and believe in accepting and respecting diverse beliefs. The problem is that Muslims who follow the Qu'ran and Hadiths to the letter do not share that sentiment.
