in response to reader comment: View of a 20 year old arab on the matter

"why do you attempt to dictate that another poster "change"?"

And my response to that question is, why do you want to divert the discussion to your mistaken perception that I am intolerant of change?

Jeanmarc is the one who is whining that the world isn't giving his culture a chance to catch up to the rest of us:

"...as people of a civilised society you should give us a break and give us time to adapt. In the past fifty years, Arabs have abandoned their tents and have moved to living in skyscrapers. They have abandoned their gowns and traditional clothes and have started wearing American jeans and Italian suits. It is not because we are submissive, but because we believe in the western ideals of life and of freedom."

and

"...please bear with us because civilisations couldn't and shouldn't change overnight."

Fortner, where in my response did I demand anything that Jeanmarc didn't say he wanted for himself? Since the only honest answer to that question must be "Nowhere" I can only surmise that you object to my demanding of Jeanmarc that he stop expecting the civilized world to continue to make allowances for his backward culture's transgressions against humanity and freedom.

Or perhaps you simply feel that the enslavement of women and the refusal to compete as an equal in the non-violent marketplace of ideas is, in itself, just another way of looking at the world. Is it that you cannot bring yourself to judge those who would destroy you and yours because you haven't the moral courage to stand up for yourself and defend your way of life? ...
