in response to reader comment: Focusing on Hamas

I would like to disagree by pointing to the fact that HAMAS (HARAKAT AL MUKAWAMAH AL ISLAMIAH) "ISLAMIC RESISTANCE MOVEMENT" is an Islamic resistance movement that employs indiscriminant terror against Israelis as a mean to liberate the Palestinians from the Israeli occupation. On the other hand, the PLO (MUNAZAMAT AL TAHREER AL FILASTINIA) is a secular leftist movement who's organization, ideology and aim does not reflect Islam or the Islamic Sharia in its struggle against Israel. Although both organizations use indiscriminant terror as a tool, they hold opposite ideological views on the nature of Palestinian society and politics.

Hamas focuses on Islam as a mean of salvation from occupation and as a form of government after liberation, while the PLO focuses on the power of the revolutionary armed masses to achieve a secular Palestinian state (JEWS INCLUDED!!!!). In fact, Hamas & the PLO are currently locked in a heated rivalry on who will control the Palestinian street. From what I see, Hamas appears to be winning the heart of the Palestinian street with its modest leaders and charity work while the PLO appears to be loosing its luster because of its totalitarian structure and the corruption of many of its cadres.

Lastly, after repeated defeats, setbacks and disasters, the Palestinians have finally learned to decentralize their resistance movement as a way to cope with Israel's ability to retaliate! Before the first Intifada, Israel was able to infiltrate the PLO and as a result it had the power to manipulate, thwart and preempt the Fidayeen. Now, Israel have largely lost that edge because of the emergence of many loose and self contained resistance cells that employ terror to achieve contradictory political objectives! Thus, in frustration and as a means to alleviate "constituent political steam", many Israeli politicians and their supporters in the West often blame the PLO leadership for all the mayhem while knowing full well that the PLO is a part of the picture but not all of it…. Mr. Gilbert Simons fell in that trap!!!!

Respectfully & with kind regards
-Rodni
