Reader comment on item: [The Canadian Islamic Congress:] An Islamist Apology

Submitted by Bill Reed III (United States), Jul 19, 2005 at 22:22

It is refreshing to know that an apology was gleaned from an Islamic group. At the same time I am reminded of the old expression, "beware of Greeks bearing gifts". Of course in this case we are not talking about Greeks but instead a large segment of the world's population that consider lying to a "kafir" perfectly acceptable. The US government, and especially the government of Canada have literally bent over backwards to appease the Muslim contingent of their respective populations.
Muslim men between the ages of 18 and 35 make up the bulk of anti Western terrorists yet the government fails to scrutinize these particular individuals for fear of being accused of racial profiling.
Congressman Dingle was forced to strip to his underwear to satisfy the screeners that his hip replacement was not a dangerous weapon. Old ladies can't carry fingerfnail clippers on a plane. What sort of unabashed lunacy are we subjecting ourselves to. If the Muslim community is predominantly peopled by good law abiding citizens, as we are constantly being reminded, and the pressure is put on them, they themselves will turn on the bad guys. The Muslim incursion up through the Iberian peninsula in the 8th century, or thereabouts, was the impetus for the crusades three hundred years later that pushed the Muslim empire back closer to it's points of origin and resentment of these events still permeates the Muslim world. Until they accept the fact that the world is not their oyster we will be in continuous conflict with them. If they act like an enemy they must be treated as such. All the nuanced negotiation or supplication in the world is not going to bring them to act reasonably. Did we not learn anything from trying to negotiate with the Soviets? Come to think of it, I guess not. We are still trying to reason with that screwball Kim Jong IL in North Korea! It's really a shame that history is so abjectedly ignored.
