making the case for The Jewish state from the palestinian perspective

Reader comment on item: Recognizing Israel as the Jewish State: Statements, Actions, Analyses

Why is it that nobody makes the case for The Jewish state from the palestinians perspective ? I believe there are large benefits for a Palestinian state being a friendly neighbour of a Jewish State of Israel as it is, Here are my four arguments:

  1. Israel as an accepted Jewish State grants more political independence to a Palestine state than a large arab state as neighbour. Think of Syria being a neighbour of Lebanon. Palestine would not suffer from some other authoritarian arab regime's influence, islamist movements next door threatening their government, interventions across their border. On top there is more cultural independence and character for Palestine because Israel is jewish with a different language, there is not much overlap.
  2. A Jewish Israel with its need to defend itself would deter enemies of Palestine as a side effect given the small size of the combined territory.
  3. Israel as it is with their econmical power and connections to the western world make a perfect trade partner for Palestine and a promising basis for ecomic growth. Palestine has the potential to become the first rich-without-oil arab nation. Being a succesful competitor would provide more national identity to Palestine than hostility to Israel ever will. From a standpoint of wealth having Israel as a neighbour is a blessing.
  4. Being true friends with a Jewish Israel would transfer great political credibility and power to Palestine in the wider region and worldwide. All that without being a large military player.

It is about time to portray Israel as the miracle that it is. There is no reason why Palestine should not have a share in this miracle. All it requires is the desire to want that miracle, not the territory.
