Reader comment on item: U.S.-Pakistan Relations in Decline

Submitted by Ted (United States), May 4, 2011 at 01:33

Dear Dr Pipes:

Is there anything going for Pakistan for which any civilized country should trust that country? A worse than half-hearted democracy, one of the very few modern countries that were formed as theocracies, hundreds of fratricidal bombings and murders, safe heaven for terrorists of all kinds, great friends of China and North Korea, church burnings, virtually no non-Islamic minorities, exporter of terrorist activities around the planet, a country that is so much in chaos that it cannot host its own sports home games, responsible for genocide of its own people just 4 decades back, safe heaven for Osama bin Laden, and a legacy of violent change of governments!

I feel sad to write this resume of Pakistan but I do not think that any country can trust Pakistan. Something must seriously change in that country or else the safety of our entire planet is at risk. We just need to keep this country stable until its nuclear bombs are neutralized or it becomes a sensible secular democracy.
