Public killing was a mistake

Reader comment on item: Thoughts on the Killing of Osama bin Laden

Submitted by Lars Nielsen (Denmark), May 3, 2011 at 08:32

Let us be honest. Osama bin Laden had his moment ten years ago. Since then, he lost importance and influence, but now the american action has brought him back in the headlines. He has been made a martyr, which will probably inspire many young fools to commit terrorist actions.

Also, there will now exist a new myth, that Osama bin Laden was not killed at all, just as Elvis never died.

What should have been done, was to kill bin Laden secretly and create a story, that he was killed by his own companions. And even better spreading a story, that bin Laden was killed by his comrades, because he was a sexual pervert, or had other disgraceful characteristics.

In short, the real job was not to kill bin Laden, but to kill his reputation, and in that respect, U.S. Seals have not succeded.
