The Israelites spent forty years wandering in the desert because of their disobedience and we have spent uncounted years and many centuries with nowhere to rest our souls because we think it is our job to point out the disobedience of the Israelites while we overlook our own evil.

I don't think the Egyptian leaders ever let go of their pride. To this day they forget the brotherhood they had with the Hebrews during the great famine and how it enabled them to become a powerful nation. Now their pride are towers filled with dead man's bones, a thing of the past, their covenant with YAHWEH forgotten. They have cast their lot with the enemy of the Lord, the one who whispers in their ear to wipe The Lord's People and the memory of them from the face of the earth.
