Reader comment on item: "A Shot at Peace": Can the U.S. Enforce the "Road Map"

Submitted by Yaakov Elefant (Israel), Jul 11, 2003 at 10:53

Your article "a Shot at Peace", as most of what you write is right on the button! However you and the American government display the characteristic of unwavering naive hope which costs us lives. The Road Map states specifically that the terrorist organizations must be disbanded and their weapons collected.

The Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Tanzim are all recognized terrorist organizations. Not only have they not been disbanded and weapons collected but they are being negotiated with as if they were legitimate "political parties".

The Road Map states explicitly that there must be an end to the encitement and delegitimization of Israel in the Palestinian media. The Palestinian TV has been running a series of "commercials" showing the Israelis "slaughter" helpless women and old men, (if you have a chance to view it you can easily spot that the "suppossed" Israelis are really Fatah soldiers). There is a summer camp in Gaza teaching children the positive aspects of martyrdom for the Palestinian people.

Yassir Arafat states openly in public that the Koran allows the Arabs to sign agreements with "infidels" with no real intention of living up to these commitments, and the US goes ahead and says we have a "shot at peace" I wonder what you are talking about?!

We are wasting precious time, we do not have two sides who are willing to live side by side. We do not have two peoples who are willing to co-exist in one of the smallest countries in the World.

The only peace we will get is if we take it, and that leads to never ending War.
So lets' build our wall of china and not allow any of the Palestininas to enter Israel and then we will have an enforceable peace!
