PA must confront terror

Reader comment on item: "A Shot at Peace": Can the U.S. Enforce the "Road Map"

Submitted by Jonathan Pfeffer (United States), Jul 9, 2003 at 10:35

The test is a very simple one for the PA. Are they willing to wage war against the terrorist organizations. What is the point of preserving these organizations like Hamas. So they can assist the PA organize a bourgeousie economy? help set up hospitals? These organizations can only exist as killer organizations, whose purpose is either to kill Jews or intimidate Arabs who follow a soft path towards Israel. The words 'Hamas' and 'death' will always go together. The only question is what will be the relationship between those two words.

The new PM of Palestine is off to a lousy start. He began his tenure trying to negotiate a cease fire with the blessing of these death organizations. He is trying to do anything but the obvious. Until Israel sees arrests, street fights, trials, peace is a hopeless exercise. I keep telling myself that the Bush Administration wants to at least be able to say, "we tried" and that Sharon does not want to be blamed by the Administration for not giving it a fair chance.
