Reader comment on item: "A Shot at Peace": Can the U.S. Enforce the "Road Map"

Submitted by Marc Baron (Canada), Jul 8, 2003 at 19:49

You put your concerns much more diplomatically than I would...but that is why you are who you are and I'm still an 'armchair' wannabee.

My concern is that the roadmap will be used by the Palestinians to draw U.S. forces into police-keeping a disingenuous peace. The danger I see is not only the physical danger to American lives, but the almost certain abuse of the situation by the Palestinian leadership who have not and will not abandon their ultimate purpose. In the short term and the long term, the Palestinian leadership, who are psychopathic liars on the scale of Bagdad Bob (IMO), will create and/or use any and every incident to grow a conflict between America and Israel.

America's latest attempt to force a peace between Israel and a rejectionist coalition of unrepentant terrorists is already on it's way to becoming a blood-soaked, wretched spectacle.

The peace model has for too long been focused on the creation of a Palestinian state. Over and over again, we see the Arabs of Gaza and the West Bank prove to us why a Palestinian state is clearly not a worthy or responsible goal.
