Counter-counter agent?

Reader comment on item: The FBI Fumbles [on Gamal Abdel-Hafiz]

Submitted by Ron Sisco (United States), Mar 14, 2003 at 12:36

As I read through this article, I wondered whether there is some counter-counter espionage going here by the FBI?? Is the FBI setting Abdel-Hafiz up as an FBI agent who is a Muslim and therefore could possibly engender trust with Muslims he is investigating to gather more confidential information for the Bureau? Is it possible that Robert Wright is not on the inside scoop of the real intents of the Bureau and therefore doesn't have all the information to make allegations against Abdel-Hafiz?

I certainly think that there could be agents within the FBI who are not really doing their job and may be compromised by other interests, such as religion, etc. But the intrigue of investigation and information gathering needs to remain covert--I'm all for that.

I am amazed at how demanding the American citizenry is for information to be brought forward for everyone to know. These are treacherous days and we need to be wise citizens.
