profilingReader comment on item: Does the Police Department Profile? Should It? Submitted by Dan (United States), Jun 14, 2006 at 12:37 While profiling may provoke arguments, when appropriately used it is indeed a useful tool. ALL of us profile on a daily basis. Given the existential battle we're in w imperialist/crusading muslims( the very things they accuse us of), we'd be utterly stupid not to use every tool at our disposal. At issue is not my civil rights or those of any other individual, what is at issue is the long term security and existence of this enterprise we call the USA! It is inevitable that innocents will be caught, the perfect net hasn't been invented. We can only hope that those errors are far and few in between, that they're recognized quickly and corrected. I realize this may be an extreme view but when circumstances change, then the rules can be changed. Until then, we should not continue to tie our hands behind our backs in this fight. Our enemies couldn't care about such considerations. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
