Abdul, thank you for your response. The answer to your question is very simple. If you or your wife feel so strongly about maintaining traditions which are contrary to those of the Western country you have immigrated to, you are free to return to an Islamic country where those religious edicts can be observed without any limitations.

When you live in a Western country, their laws and traditions must be observed. If I move to an Islamic country, I would respect their traditions and customs. I would not walk around in shorts and a tank top. In other words, when in Rome, do as the Romans. It does not have anything to do with "democracy" and everything to do with maintaining our Western culture.
