Yes to No Muslim ImmigrationReader comment on item: Anti-Muslim Racism? Submitted by Robinoz (Australia), Jan 1, 2010 at 22:09 This is an old post, but here's a response. I lived for three years in the United Arab Emirates which, although a muslim non-democracy (Islam and democracy are mutually exclusive concepts), was a much nicer place to live than Saudi Arabia apparently is. The Emiratis are tolerant of other religions and different people and allow one to wear Western clothing provided it doesn't amount to bikinis in shopping centres. I never found it hard to respect their dress codes and was happy to do so because I was a guest in the Emirates. You could buy pork, alcohol, and celebrate Christian events if you wished; I was surprised at just how much Christmas stuff was on sale the first year I was there for Christmas. Although not one who follows a religion, I was brought up in Australia which was a Christian country, therefore, the cultural traditions of Christmas are still something I follow and I followed them in the UAE along with my friends who were either practising or non-practising Christians. I respect the right of Saudis and anyone else to practise whatever they wish in their countries. However, I am against muslim immigration in Australia for the simple reason that Islam and the cultural attachments thereto are inconsistent with Australian culture and values. Quite simply, muslims don't integrate because our culture is so foreign to them. For this reason, I believe, they are best to immigrate to a country like Saudi Arabia, Iran, or one of the dozens of other muslim countries instead of coming to Australia where they are not wanted by a large majority of the population. Would you go somewhere where nobody wants you? Of course not. If you are an Australian voter/taxpayer, you need to agitate for a muslim exclusive immigration policy.
