But I try to be optimistic that they are strategic merits in the disengagement: releasing the need for so many Israeli troops to defend the few settlers surrounded by hostile Arabs, removing more than a million Arabs from the population/demographic equation, but--most important--strengthening the retention of West Bank settlements.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
