The Most Dangerous Critics of IsraelReader comment on item: "Today Gaza, Tomorrow Jerusalem" Submitted by Martin E. Weinstein (United States), Aug 11, 2005 at 03:42 Daniel: Excellent piece. I agree with you that the Gaza withdrawal will only increase Arab violence against Israel (and also against us).It is not quite clear who you have in mind when you write "critics of Israel," who keep pushing land for peace and more withdrawals. It seems to me that the most dangerous "critics" have been Israelis. Although you quote Israeli Labor Party members as critical of Sharon's unilateral withdrawal, Labor, the Israeli Left, the likes of Shimon Peres, have been a powerful factor behind this latest idiocy. My own guess is that Sharon lost his head in a misdirected effort to build a wider consensus in Israel. I profoundly hope that the next intifada will be met by a more realistic, more unified Israeli response--one that will show the Arabs that it is prohibitively expensive and painful to attack Israel. And that the US, in our own interest, will back that policy. Martin Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
