Islam certainly does seem to be the problem

ECAW, I agree with your article in its entirety. Apart from Islam's worrying tendency to deceive when deception suits its purposes, rendering all its assurances meaningless, it seems to me that we have had quite enough time, over the many centuries, to note that the fervent and sword-wielding variety of Islamic acitivity waxes and wanes, no matter the terms we apply to its manifestations. A period of apparent quietude guarantees nothing; likewise, assurances of peace and goodwill lying at the heart of Islam.

Far more useful to Western societies would be to declare Islam an ideology, similar in vein to all the other totalitarian ideologies we have foolishly nourished in our bosom, and deprive it of its protected religious status.
