Allow minorities their beliefs and laws

Reader comment on item: Canada's Muslims, Not of One Mind

Submitted by slayhy (United Arab Emirates), Nov 3, 2011 at 15:32

The Muslims in Canada are a mere 600,000 people and they are mainly moderate, people who wants to have better living but at the same time they would like to see a special treatment for them in sharia laws, they are a small percent of the total population to make any difference or to impose their will on the majority, but consideration for their belief and as a freedom, democratic country that we believe Canada is, I believe the Canadian constitution should allow the ethnic minorities who have their own laws to have some kind of space for their beliefs and laws such as sharia to be considered, it may not be implemented in full as there are some issues for example with marraige or inheritance, each case should be dealt seperately and according to the laws that permits the concent of the parties involved, if they agree to arbitrate according to their laws as long as no harm is done to others.
