The problems with surveys

Reader comment on item: Canada's Muslims, Not of One Mind

Submitted by Peter Hall (Australia), Nov 2, 2011 at 00:06

I find that every time I see the published results of surveys, that the obvious is never asked and the obscure is substituted for logic.

As and Australian, we have a lot in common with Canada, and many shared values. The one thing I truly find as funny, is when you ask a criminal if they commit crimes they will invariably say no. Or if you ask a criminal are the Police crooked, they will usually say yes.

Therefore I find it amazing that a survey would ask Muslims if Canada was a racist country!!! It is like asking if Australia is a racist country.

I would ask any sane person, why not ask what countries are the least racist? Canada and Australia must surely rank amongst the least racist countries in the world. We invite peoples from all over the world to live here as full citizens, allow religious freedoms, and have laws designed to protect everybody.

No Muslim countries, or Asian, or even African countries have the same level of tolerance or protection for all the people living here or in Canada.

We do not ask career criminals to set our moral standards, we do not approach child sex offenders to look after child care centres, we do not seek out brick layers when we need a brain surgeon.

So why do we keep allowing groups who are racist, and from racist countries call our countries racist?

Does Saudi Arabia ask its Indian house maids do u think they are racist? Do the Chinese ask foreigners about their attitudes? Do you think India treats all its people the same? Do the Lebanese let the Palestinians who have lived there for 40 plus years become citizens? Hell no.

So why do these fools who draft these surveys perpetuate the myth that Canada is racist?? Racist compared to where? I know of no other country that would not be proud of Canada and its treatment of minorities and immigrants.

So I get incensed whenever I see these stupid surveys where they usually ask minorities from very racist countries if they think their hosts are racists!!!

Muslims look down on all non Muslims, it is in their Qu'ran and holy books. The look upon western values and society with disdain.

When will these fools stop perpetuating the myths about non racist and non sexist countries and groups, and call a to account racist and sexist countries.

I think these surveys are used by minorities to promote their own agendas, not provide insight to their hosts.
