Allah instructs all Muslims to respect other religions.

Egyptian Christian, you got it wrong. As a Muslim, I have never come upon an Imam saying words like that in prayer. Allah instructs us to respect all religion and forbids us to insult other religions. That's because, for example, if I insulted your mother you would react the same way, right? So Allah foresees this and that's why at the same time we have to protect our religion. But you see, have there ever been a Muslim who insults another religion? We just point out to you what lacks in your religion and you say that is insulting. It's like me trying to tell you that the Earth as the center of the solar system is wrong but you wont accept it! It is also important that we have to spread Islam and attract more followers into our religion because Allah instructs it as compulsory just like as it is compulsory to pray the 5 fardhu prayers.
