Courtcase tactics in motion...

Reader comment on item: Why I Stand with Geert Wilders
in response to reader comment: Wilders stronger with only 3 witness, what about witness to the prosecution ?

Myth, the situation is at this time is as follows: the 18 expert witnesses were divided in 3 categories, depending on their knowledge on law or islam. 5 where professors on law, free speech etc and 13 on islam, whereby the last groep is further split in 8 persons comprising academics, writers and historians, and 5 persons comprising muslim adherents such als imams and mullahs including the murderer of the filmmaker Theo van Gogh who is serving a life sentence.

The Judges refused all lawprofessors, and also all muslim adherents. The reason given, that they (the judges) do not need any help on the law (!) and can very well make up their own minds regarding the legal ramifications... The muslims are not necessary because the judges are aware that there are some muslims who commit crimes against non-muslims in the name of Allah refering to the Koran. They too are not necessary, according to the judges....

Of the 8 academics, 3 remain who could give complementary information. These will be mrs. Wafa Sultan and 2 other longtime Islam academics.

It is pretty well clear in the mind of most over here what the judges want to avoid: a too big of a splash on the Islam and are really not interested in scrutinizing and/or analyzing the Koran too closely.

All the judges are interested in, is focusing on the specific charges regarding hate-speech, racism and discrimination against muslims, which are the charges that are being brought to court.

As Mr Wilders has always criticized the Islam and never an individual muslim per say, these charges will not stick I am shure, but the chance to get the Koran 'on the witness-stand' would have been a golden one ofcourse. (This is ofcourse part of Mr WIlders tactics).

Still, it is strange that Mr Wilders does not get the right to choose his own witnesses...

Anyway, Mr Wilders' lawyer has announced today that he wil ask all 5 professors and the remaining islam academics to each write an extensive paper stating their opinions on the matter, which the lawyer will then proceed to read out aloud in the courtroom. That could take a while!..

The prosecution does not have anybody they would want to call to the stand however.

The courtcase will take 5 days somewhere between june and october I have heard. More news will be placed on the special website.
