A suggested rewrite of "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe"

Reader comment on item: Why I Stand with Geert Wilders

Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Jan 22, 2010 at 16:36

May be the Netherlands should rewrite their national anthem:

The triers of Geert Wilders--
Are they of true Dutch blood?
Their fatherland in peril
They moo and chew their cud
The Prince of Orange goes rolling
In his grave beneath the ground.
His heirs are abject, crawling,
Lest they be "bigots" found.

The land of B. Spinoza
Fear free enquiry
Into religious tradition
If it too militant be.
When the modern Duke of Alva
Comes waving crescent moons
They'll fear the insult "bigot!"
And submit to vicious goons
